Caroline Fitzgerald Bio
Caroline Fitzgerald began her career as an independent documentary filmmaker, historian and writer, in her native New Zealand. Since then her work has taken her around the world several times and included numerous non-fiction book publications, public speeches and seminars.
Caroline Fitzgerald is a writer and filmmaker whose work bridges history, storytelling, and the natural world. Trained in photography and journalism, she began her career writing historical biographies before completing an MA in Creative Writing (Non-Fiction) and Colonial American History at the University of East Anglia. Following the Christchurch earthquakes, she turned her focus toward visual storytelling, studying natural history filmmaking at the University of Otago.
In 2014 a Fulbright Travel Award allowed her to spend a month filming in New England, USA. She also filmed aboard the historic 38th Voyage of the Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaleship from Mystic Seaport: The Museum of America and the Sea. The results of this opportunity are viewed in her documentary – Beyond the Known Seas.
In 2013 she produced the documentary – The Drowning Country.
